What's all this then?

Colin has ALS. His symptoms started in 2006. It started in his left hand, moved on to both of his arms, and now ALS is attacking his legs. Soon he’ll need a wheelchair.

Colin and his wife Marney need help so they can update their house. When it was built in 1938, the architect did a poor job of making it wheelchair accessible. In fact, you can’t get into the house without negotiating at least five stairs—so the house isn’t accessible if you just have bad knees or an ankle sprain or something like that.

In order for Colin to navigate the house in a wheelchair, they’ll need to add ramps, widen doorways and hallways, and create a wheelchair-accessible bathroom. Unfortunately, Colin and Marney don’t qualify for any grants or government assistance, so they’ll have to pay out-of-pocket.

Retrofitting the house will cost about as much as a German sports car. (Around $40,000!) When Colin learned that, he insisted they buy an Audi instead. This is why Marney keeps the checkbook hidden from Colin at all times. (Well, she doesn’t actually keep it hidden from him, he just doesn’t know where it is…)

That’s why a group of Colin and Marney’s friends (that’s us) put together this fundraiser. Check out this site for ways you can help. You can walk, you can write a check, you can even buy clothes. And who doesn’t love clothes?

You may have noticed that this website looks like something Colin would design. That’s because he did. We told him that if he didn’t update his site, we would have to. Since our web design process involves sending Colin a page of text and saying, “Can you make this pretty?,” he was going to get stuck with the design job either way.
